The story of University

Let's talk about 4 high school students; Jayme, Brianna, Rex and Madhulika. Jayme belonged to a rich family with a well settled family business, happy go lucky nature and thinks life is all about having fun. Brianna on the other hand was from a poor family, very disciplined and goal oriented. Rex belonged to a middle class family, super inquisitive in nature, someone who always questioned the status quo. Madhulika didn't really have a family as she was an orphan, although being intelligent and active in social conversations, she was always looked down upon by her friends and orphanage was the only place she could call home.

Soon all of them entered college and as we know it is often advised to major in something that makes you money and minor in something you love; so obviously, Jayme chose to major in Business, Rex & Brianna opted for engineering but surprisingly Madhulika wanted to be an artist so she pursued drawing & sculpture studies. As fate would have it, her friends made fun of her yet again, so much so that she even received comments like it was her silly choices in life that she'll never be successful and always remain poor. Being an introvert, all she did was ignore such comments.

As time passed, things started to change; since Jayme was already from a business background he thought he'll ace anyway and hence all he did was pursue pleasure, parties, sightseeing, drinking and binge watching movies. While on the other hand, engineering became really hard for Rex and Brianna, both of them handled it differently. Brianna being disciplined knew what her goals were and put in more effort from her end regardless of how bad her teachers were, how mediocre the curriculum was and how competitive & practical her batch mares were. But Rex was a little rebellious type and always pondered how and why suddenly everyone has become to competitive as if they're running a rat race, why is it that we have such lack luster unmotivated teachers and mainly, why is it that something which he deliberately decided to purse (i.e engineering in his case) is now taking a toll on him. He's not only struggling in college but has also lost almost all of his interest in technical studies. And here was Madhulika, having the time of her life you would assume ? Well not really, she was going through her own self-doubt crisis. Firstly, the question whether she belonged there and was it a mistake to pursue art? She was exposed to people who were naturally gifted for the field and comparably, she was nothing, which was also one of the reasons for her mindset to become this way.

This is when Rex went to checkup on Madhulika. As their conversation proceeded Rex opened up and shared how engineering was sucking the soul out of him and he desperately needed some guidance. Usually the ones who speak the least are the wisest in the group that is why I've come to you, he said. This was the first time Madhulika was praised and she understood, no matter what her friends comment usually, she in herself definitely has some value. So, this is what Madhulika replied; Rex, have you ever heard a song and thought even you can also sing that, but when you actually tried, you failed miserably. You see professional singers have developed their skill in such a way that it seems so easy but it's next to impossible for a layman to change high&low notes consecutively while making it all sound in the same pace. We think that it's easy and we can do it but it's not; and this is what's happening to you, just because you chose something you're interested in doesn't make it easy. Rex understood what Madhulika was trying to convey, when there's fog in the journey we don't stop, we rather proceed/progress slowly but keep going. The road ahead is unclear, there's heavy traffic from the other side and it's getting harder and harder for you to drive but do you stop and start questioning your path or rant about how unfair life is to you? No, you trust your gut and keep going. This is when Madhulika also got rid of her self doubt as she understood all she needed was some patience & perseverance. Yeah, there were people in art who're far more capable than Madhulika is, but that is because of their hard work and effort. It's so easy to get fooled by someone's success that we never really see the hard work behind it. Meanwhile, it's no wonder that Jayme screwed up and Brianna reached where she was headed for.

But you see this story is far from reality because how often do you see someone from a rich family to go down in stature? It's rather, people from middle class background go through so much struggle and still manage to live in mediocrity. Why do you think that is? It's because of parenting, they were born in a rich family but their parents were not, their parents made their way up there and they make sure to teach their kids the importance of struggle. Now, it's up to you to choose your sacrifice or let life make that decision for you. Touché.
